Back to Myths...

The world was young and newly formed - the Gods of creation were pleased with their work. Now it was time to bring forth life, but first they must ensure that the world would be protected and cared for. They decided to create four Guardians, whose duty it would be to watch over the world and see that all ran smoothly.

First they took clay from the ground and molded it into the Guardian of the Earth. She was the one who would hold the power and fragility of life in her hands, never forgetting the ground in which she had her roots.

Next they took a drop of water from the vast oceans and poured it into the shape of the Guardian of the Water. He was to see that the world was always kept fresh and healthy - he must renew the ground and water so that it would be fit to nuture the life it contained.

From the very heart of the world, they took a single burning ember and forged it into the Guardian of Fire. Her duty was to control the energy of the earth, a power which could force up the land and drain the seas. With this power she must ensure the world remained stable and suitable for life.

Finally, the Gods of creation knew that with each precious life must come a death, and they let out a sigh. This sigh gave rise to the last Guardian - the Guardian of the Air. It was his sorrowful task to ride through the sky, leading the souls of the dead away from the world and life they had loved, towards an unknown end.
